Who is responsible

What we collect

Your email address; your first name, date of birth and gender (your gender is never shown to anyone); your photos, short bio and daily note; your location; your "I saw you" signals, matches and messages; what you write in the local chat; reports; the suggestions and complaints you send from your profile (with your app version, phone type and language); your phone's time zone and notification token; your subscription status (your card details never reach us); and, if the app crashes, an error record without personal details.

Your location

Your location is recorded on your phone first. Points inside private zones, such as your home and work, never leave your phone. Other points are sent to the server and deleted after 72 hours. No one ever sees your location, distance or a map; others only learn, an hour later, that you were near them and a place name. We ask separately for your explicit consent to process your location; you can turn recording off in Profile and withdraw your consent.

Who sees what

Someone who was near you sees only your first name and photos, an hour later. A match also sees your age and bio. A Premium user sees your name and photo if you noticed them. When you write in the local chat, readers see your first name and cover photo. Photo links last 10 minutes.

Why we use it

To run the app (showing moments, matching, messaging); to keep people safe and prevent abuse; to manage subscriptions; to fix errors. The legal basis for location is your explicit consent; for the rest, performing our contract with you and legitimate interest.

How long we keep it

Location points: 72 hours. Local chat: 24 hours. A chat that goes on stays until one of you ends it or deletes their account. Copies of ended chats and the photos in them, for reports: 90 days. When you delete your account, your profile, photos and messages are deleted. Suggestions and complaints you send from your profile: until you delete your account. Report records are kept for as long as needed to review the report and keep people safe. Backups are deleted within a reasonable time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. Companies that run parts of the service for us: Supabase (database and files, Frankfurt, Germany), Apple and Google (payments and notifications), RevenueCat (subscription status), Sentry (error records), Cloudflare (human check), Expo (notification delivery). Some of them are outside your country Transfers are made in line with applicable data protection law and with appropriate safeguards..

Your rights

You can ask what data we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use (KVKK article 11 and, where it applies, the GDPR). You can delete your account in the app. For anything else: whowas006@gmail.com.

Children

Who Was is not for anyone under 18; we delete accounts we learn belong to someone under 18.
